What does Copy to Anki do?

Copy to Anki lets you highlight text on any page and save it as an Anki flashcard. It can capture rich HTML (links, formatting, images) and can optionally generate a concise question for the card using an AI model.

Do I need AnkiConnect?

Yes. To send cards from your browser to Anki, you need Anki installed and the AnkiConnect add-on enabled.

Does it work offline?

If Anki is closed, the extension can queue notes locally and sync them automatically when AnkiConnect becomes available again.

Is Copy to Anki free?

Manual card creation is free. If you enable auto-generating questions, you’ll need an OpenAI API key and an OpenAI account with credits/billing enabled.

What data does it store?

Copy to Anki stores your settings (like deck/model choices) and any queued notes locally in your browser. To add cards it talks to AnkiConnect on your machine (localhost). If you enable AI question generation, the selected text is sent to OpenAI.

Will it work on any website?

It works on most pages; complex sites may require manual tweaks.
